2004-05 was special in our history. NHL season was cancelled due to lockout and a lot of hockey stars crossed the pond in other direction.
After success in 2000 our team did not see any medals. Before the season Anatoly Kharchuk was named the president of the club, Vladimir Krikunov became the head coach.
Dynamo agreed that Pavel Datsyuk, Andrei Markov, Maxim Afinogenov, Artyom Chubarov will play for out club. Also, Dynamo signed contracts with Pavel Rosa and Lubos Bartecko. Forward Alexander Ovechkin who became the first overall at 2004 NHL Draft decided to stay one more season in our club.
Dynamo faced with a lot of injuries but secured the first spot after regular season. Before the playoffs we signed contracts with forwards Alexander Frolov, Igor Volkov and Sergei Samsonov.
In first round Dynamo swept Neftekhimik in three games. The semi-final series became historical. Dynamo lost in first game 2:3 SO, another night we destroyed the opponent with 11:0 score. The third goal was decided by phantom goal from Igor Mirnov. In the finals we met again with Lada and won 3-0 in the series. Dynamo became a champion for 9th time.
